New page

- Cranbrook Class of 1963 --> Cranbrook Class of 1963 - Memories --> here
----
I'm going to cheat and mention two high points of my Cranbrook experience.

The first is the writing we were required to do in Carl Wonnberger's courses. I retired in 2011 with over 300 publications in scientific journals, and for the majority of them the reason I was an author was that I was the only member of the collaboration who could make a grammatically correct sentence, much less hold the attention of a reader. Every time I've had a chance to give sage advice to new students at the University, I've said the same thing: "If you aspire to become a scientist, there is one skill that will determine your success much more than any other: your writing ability! Because if you can't express yourself well in writing, you will never get a grant or a job as a scientist, much less publish papers at a rate sufficient to win you tenure." Usually I get open-mouthed astonishment in return. But it's true.

The second ... what the hell was the second? Dang! It'll come back to me eventually. That's what's so nice about a wiki - you can come back later and fix things up!
