"You know Damon?" Lisa felt her hand go to her throat reflexively. <br />

"Of course I do Lisa." He seemed to smile a bit as though her naivet&#233; was amusing. <br />

"Oh so you know me too. I guess maybe I know who you are, or might be. Justus. Right?" <br />

"Yes. Justus. Are you going to let me in?" <br />

"Actually, I just want to run away right now and hope to never see you again. Sorry." <br />

"Look, Lisa, just because I believe that humans probably have to go doesn't mean that I'm about to commit mayhem or do anything to you. I wouldn't hurt you and hurting people isn't what it's about. Believe me, the takedown, if it happens, will be very slow and gradual. But I think we need to talk about it. I'm sure Damon would want that." <br />

"Oh sure, I'm sure. You bet. Damon would want us to talk. Damon loves talk. But I'm completely freaked out. Can't you understand that?" <br />

"Yeah, I can understand it. Of course. But are you going to just leave me standing on your doorstep and somehow think that will resolve it? Like I'm just going to go away and then you can hide somewhere and the titanic problems of human existence will no longer be the case?" She felt foolish and very small. She didn't seem to know what a door or a doorstep really was. <br />

"Okay. You can come in. I guess I'm acting foolish. I feel foolish. I have no idea at all how to act in this situation." <br />

He pushed the door open gently. <br />

"How about you make some tea or something. Anything to get us beyond this. We'll sit and talk and maybe we can clear some ground. What do you think?" <br />
